Biblog

Boy, this room is messy. On one side, a huge shelf of books on topics ranging from A Biblical Perspective on the Race Problem to hymnbooks to the Westminster Confession of Faith to the Book of Mormon, all lying on each other, tilted at crazy angles. On the other side, two desks are butted together and have numerous Bibles of various translation and language on them. A third desk contains piles of papers, notes, notepads, pens, and notepads. A guitar is sitting on top of the notes.

You sense that order is beginning to come of this mess.

A handwritten paper sits on top of the guitar, held down (there's actually a breeze in here, though you can't see, taste, or smell it) by a green ballpoint pen.

If the breeze creeps you out, you can always return to the sedated space, but you decide to examine what seems to be one of the most important parts of the caverns.

The Sheet On Top

dated October 12, 2003

Today, I am feeling rather ill. I can't go to worship, learn, and fellowship at my local church, so I'll worship and learn at home. Today, the Holy Spirit reminded me of a passage that I once printed up on a card to carry around with me everywhere: II Peter 1.

(1)Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ:

(2)Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

(3)seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

sigh. Last night I had a conversation with a friend about religion. Finally, we got to the heart of the matter. He believes that humans are basically good, but stained by Adam. Humans don't deserve punishment, but they get it anyways, hence our need for the Catholic Church. He refuses to allow God to grant him the righteousness of Christ through faith in Christ. He thinks he can attain to some measure of it. It is not an easy thing to tell friends they are wrong. It's sad when people fail to acknowledge God's blessing for them; they only sell themselves short of "everything pertaining to life and godliness" and "true knowledge". Sigh.

(4) For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

yipee :) partakers of the Divine Nature. Come up with a Christmas present that beats that one.

(5) Now, for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, (6) and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, (7) and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. (8) For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Woah. There you go folks. Want to really really know Jesus Christ? We often get along best with people we have similarities with. Ths works with Jesus Christ as well. In fact, the Bible says that the day we really 100% know Christ, understand the mindblowing love, the great generosity, the combination of all He is, will be the same day we truly become like Him. But in this life, we have the power of God, the Holy Spirit to help us grow in faith, in moral excellence, in knowledge, in perseverance, in kindness, and in love, and thus grow in the knowledge of our beautiful Saviour.

(9) For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
Have you ever felt like this? I have. It's a great blessing to be growing in the knowledge of Christ
10) Therefore, bretheren, be all the more dilligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; {11} for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.

The second half of the chapter is just as exhilirating, but I'm feeling pretty weak, so I'll leave it for later.
