Academic Integrity Posters

Designed by J. Nathan Matias with the help of Hannah Scott

No doubt, if you are a student at Elizabethtown College, you have noticed a series of posters on the walls encouraging you to live honestly and perform your studies with integrity. These posters are just one of the efforts of E-town College's Academic Integrity Committee, which I am co-chairing in the 2004-2005 academic year.

Last year, Hannah Scott and I sat down to make a bunch of new posters. She is an excellent artist and a kind, intelligent, thoughtful person. Her dad, Stephen Scott is a professor at the Young Center for the study of Anabaptist and Pietist Groups. With her peeking over my shoulder, helping me write some text and determine layout, I put together the following posters.

I miss the time we spent together. People of her quality are rare.

The bird photos are the remarkable work of photographers R.W. Scott and Greg Scott. They have perfected amazing methods for getting incredibly-detailed photos of birds in flight. They are also believers in Christ! Greg has graciously allowed us to use the photos in our integrity posters. Thanks guys!

I find it interesting that Greg frequently visited family just down the road from Elizabethtown when he was young.

If you would like to use these posters to encourage your fellow college students to live honestly, contact me and I'll be glad to send you high-resolution vector graphics (pdf or Illustrator) files or print out new, laminated posters with your school's name (for a fee -- proceeds go to the Academic Integrity Committee).

If honor be your clothing, the suit will last a lifetime, but if clothing be your honor, it will soon be worn threadbare -- William Arnot From the Spring of 2005, by J. Nathan Matias. Brianna Lynch made the cat poster. Brianna was a long-time member of the AIC and is a really special person. She is a marvelous artist and has won awards with some of her engraving work. I am proud to know her. So many great people have graduated. When I began, Hilary Short and Heidi Brashear were the marvelous co-chairs of the committee. Then I served with Sara Robinson and Kyle Kopko as a co-chair. Now Kyle is off to Ohio State, bless him. The list of names is long. It is a good thing to have known such awesome people. Perhaps I will list them someday (I did, Jan 2008).

Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip. --Will Rogers There is no pillow so soft as a clear conscience Keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world. -- George Bernard Shaw

And here, just for kicks, is the poster Hannah and I made for our personal use. Since both Hannah and I are believers in Christ, we consider this physical life to be only a small part of the human experience. As people, we need to remember that the accomplishments of an entire age cannot even measure adequately against the attainments of one who in faith realizes his/her feebleness and asks God for things of true value.
